What is Thai Yoga?

TThis ancient Ayurvedic healing practice recognizes the importance of moving the body to release various restrictions and facilitate wellness. It uses gentle pressure, stretching techniques, pulling, kneading and rolling that relieves tension and enhances flexibility and range of motion. The therapist uses his or her hands, knees, feet and body weight to move the recipient into a series of assisted yoga stretches that combine gentle joint mobilizations and apply rocking muscle compressions and acupressure to encourage flow along the body's energy lines. The massage also utilizes energy work, which treats subtle energetic fields in the body. It corrects blockages, deficiencies and imbalances in the flow of energy, which then is believed to improve the client’ s health. Each Thai session is unique because the approach is medical in application and targets regions of restriction and congestion. Thai yoga is the most approachable of the types of treatment delivered by massage therapist, as it is performed while you are fully clothed, in loose attire as for yoga class on the padded mat without using any lubricants.

Please bring loose and stretchy workout or lounge attire for this session and keep in mind the work is done on a mat or the floor. For clients not accustomed to having body work done on a mat or for someone with limited mobility we can perform this modality on a massage table.

Benefits of Thai Yoga:

Increased flexibility and range of motion

Relieves muscle, back, joint stiffness and pain

Stimulates circulation and lymphatic drainage

Relieves tension headaches

Calms nervous system and Boosts energy

Contradictions

Disk herniation, osteoporosis, recent surgery and fractures, cardiovascular disease, abdominal hernia, bruised, inflamed or weak skin, open wounds, tumors, pregnancy.

If you are considering a Thai massage, we recommend discussing it with your health care provider if it is appropriate for you.

Thai Foot Massage

The ancient wellness practice of reflexology divides the foot and hands into zones that correspond to organs and systems in the body. It stimulates the activity of internal organs and is a truly holistic treatment.

This massage applies pressure to areas of the sole of the feet. Hands, fingers, thumbs, knuckles and a rounded wooden Thai wood massage stick are used to stimulate certain areas of the feet releasing blocked energy within the body’s many Sens lines- Thai based meridians. The massage involves hands on manipulations, rotations, stretching and a massage of the lower legs, knees, and feet. Freeing up blocked energy in the body’s Thai-based meridians to create a feeling of deep relaxation, balance, and well-being. Your session will be performed with you fully clothed, lying face up on the massage table. Your therapist will cleanse your hands and feet, use some hot stones and apply a deep moisturizing, detoxifying sesame oil and finish off with invigorating peppermint essential oil. Please arrive in comfortable loose clothing.

Contradictions

Infectious skin disorders, contagious verrucas, athletes’ feet, fungal infections, in-grown toenails, hypersensitive or broken skin. Acute inflammation or swelling. Diabetes if skin is very thin (may result in bruising), recent surgery in the treatment area, first trimester of pregnancy.

Sound and vibration therapies are an ancient form of regeneration where the mind and body dive into the meditative state. The harmonic resonance of the gong sound induces the brain to relax. Tibetan singing bowls can relieve stress on all levels, eliminate toxins by the body, stimulate the immune system, and produce beneficial changes in brain waves. Used in many cultures this healing practice takes this method a step further by using sound and vibrations to possibly heal physical aches and pains, and help manage mental and emotional issues.

Poor mood and elevated anxiety are linked to disease. Systems such as mindfulness-based meditations have shown promise in inducing the body’s physiological response in relaxation, including lower blood pressure to counter the fight-or-flight response. However, many people lack the time, patience, and discipline required to learn meditation. This isn’t the case with singing bowl therapy: it is a form of relaxation and stress relief that does not require a steep learning curve or great deal of discipline to utilize potentially huge benefits to human wellness and health.

This experience is quite unique and powerful and does not require you to disrobe. Like a conductor preparing an orchestra to tune for a symphony to follow, vibration/sound treatment trains your brain and nervous system to deeply relax and therefore attain its own healing zone.

Sound therapy available by appointment on select days.

The first noted usage of tuning forks by a medical doctor for integrative therapeutics was in Padua Italy. That favorite song or sound has an effect on you because of the frequency and vibration. Hand formed bowls and tuning forks are placed around you as well as upon you for specific work while you are resting on a massage table. Those vibration tools are used in biofield tuning, a form of sound therapy to stimulate balance in specific areas and all over the nervous system. Biofield tuning is based on the premise that the human biofield -the energy field that surrounds and permeates our bodies is incredibly connected with our conscious and subconscious mind, including all of our memories. All physical, mental and emotional disorders can be perceived as a “dissonance” in our energy fields. Biofield tuning is able to diminish and resolve this dissonance and in doing so alleviate and even irradiate the corresponding physical, mental and emotional symptoms.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Lymphatic drainage is a highly specialized hands-on therapy that stimulates the flow of lymphatic fluid through the system. While its primary purpose is to reduce various kinds of edema, lymphedema and related conditions, it's equally beneficial within wellness settings, for those who wish to support waste removal, detoxification and tissue regeneration. To understand how it works, it is useful to have some understanding of the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is much like a giant waste removal plant that acts as the drainage route for nearly all extracellular fluid. It is an important factor in controlling the amount of fluid in the body, holds the important job of eliminating waste materials, proteins, long chain fatty acids and cellular debris and it is instrumental in triggering an immune response when bacteria viruses or signs of infection are encountered.

Craniosacral Balancing massage

Craniosacral therapy is a form of bodywork that uses gentle touch to palpate the synarthrodial joints of the cranium. It is a type of bodywork that relieves compression in the bones of the head, sacrum (a triangular bone in the lower back), and spinal column. It is thought that through gentle manipulation of the bones in the skull, spine and pelvis the flow of cerebrospinal fluid in the central nervous system can be normalized. This removes “blockages'' from the normal flow, which enhances the body’s ability to heal. This therapy is most beneficial if conducted in series from 3 to 10 sessions depending on the condition one is trying to treat.

Every joint in the body is a circulatory power-point for our nerve information as well as fluids that nourish various body processes, with enormously critical joints being at our ankles, base of skull and lower back. These vital joints serve as body-balancing bridges for all of our movement and neurological awareness. In the same way damage to one tire can transfer unnatural wear and friction to other tires on the chassis. Imbalances or compression caused by misalignment in these elemental joints will transfer up and down our spine to our heels and impact everything from brain function, to balance in space, pain, immunity, emotions, critical thinking, rest, allergies, etc.

Our brain is not just in our skull, but runs all the way to our tail bone, with the cleansing fluid necessary for its proper function and lubrication pulsing not only up and down our spine, but through every joint especially at our heels. Joint balancing from heel to crown is necessary for proper system functioning, and when these crucial joints are corrected, the body's innate balancing and healing systems can take over. This work is both gentle and profound. It takes only the weight of a nickel to move a bone, and this is exactly what you can expect with this work. Fluid buildup in various tissues is the cause of joint misalignment so your therapist will be moving fluid to make room for the body to find the joint correction on its own.

You may be more familiar with the terms Cranial Sacral or Lymphatic Massage, which are the hallmarks of Osteopathic Bodywork. It’s a remarkable therapy for chronic complaints pre and post surgically, headaches, allergies, scar recovery (no matter how old they are!) TMJ, TBI,concussion and any neurological condition (including autism spectrum complications) along with preparing for extensive athletic events or long journeys.

Please wear comfortable clothing, as you will remain in them for the entire treatment. Your attendant will work from the top of your skull to the soles of your feet without lubricant of any type.

Craniosacral and lymphatic body work is available by appointment only.

Sports Massage

What do you think of when you hear the word massage? Relaxation? Lovely oils? Cozy sheets? You may be surprised to learn that massage has been used for 5000 years for medical balance as well as for relaxation. Sports massage may heal soft tissue injuries. Multiple massage techniques that vary depths are applied to help heal inflammation, provide pain relief, and reduce inevitable build-up of scar tissue from soft tissue injuries. This massage protocol is a blend of several different techniques used to address the various needs of individual athletes. By targeting the various muscle groups that an athlete uses in his/her sport with stretching, deep tissue work and various range of motion techniques, flexibility and circulation are increased. By keeping the muscles lengthened and out of spasm the muscles maintain maximum performance power to do their work. Your therapist will work through the mechanical functionality of your muscles and joints to find the best course of correction and assign your "homework" to do the real healing:/ finding your body's own balance. We will work through a variety of assisted stretches to awaken your nervous system and ranges of motion and give you biomechanical instruction for growing body awareness. Joint mobility and lymphatic flushing are the prime focus of this full body balancing work. Sports massage is a wonderful pre-event conditioning adjunct as well as post event soreness, pain reduction modality. If you are a weekend warrior looking to shave a few seconds off your time, preparing for a big run or hike, or recovering from a physical workout or big race, this modality is PERFECT! Look forward to a powerfully restorative series of sessions!

Please wear comfortable clothing that allows topical work, ideally shorts with a sports bra. Little or no lubricant will be used.
